Fire Safety Simulation

This study investigates smoke diffusion inside an enclosed environment and evaluates the temperature evolution near an object placed at a distance X from the fire source. The fire scenario is modeled for FDS, a software that solve problems using a Finite Volume Method.

The numerical analyses show that the size and heat release rate of the fire source strongly influence smoke propagation and temperature distribution within the room. Results highlight how the distance from the fire source affects the time interval during which the object remains within safe thermal conditions.

Goal: Investigation of smoke diffusion within a room and evaluation of the temperature near an object positioned at a distance X from the fire source.

Methods: The fire scenario is designed by developing the input file for an FDS simulation. Post-processing and visualization are carried out using Smokeview.

Results:The size and power of the fire source strongly affect the position at which the object remains within a safe zone for a specific time interval.
